Perfume, EdP, EdT, or EdC? Are you familiar with fragrance concentration?
Have you chosen a new perfume, but feel that after a short while, the divine scent that has captivated you so much will wear off? Maybe you have chosen the wrong type of product! In the world of fragrances, there is a practical division that clearly tells us whether we will enjoy a fragrance for hours or just a few moments...
Perfume, eau de parfum, eau de toilette, eau de cologne... These are terms that many of you are surely familiar with, but do you understand their meaning correctly? This basic division determines the proportion of the perfume composition, i.e. the content of fragrance ingredients in the concentrated spirit. It describes the strength of the perfume, i.e. how long it lasts.
How to choose a fragrance that lasts?
Have you chosen a fragrance that you are passionate about and would like to enjoy its presence for as long as possible? Before you buy a product, look carefully at the packaging. It says what type of fragrance it is! The strength of the fragrance, i.e. how long you and those around you will perceive it, is determined by the ratio of the fragrance ingredients in the concentrated alcohol.
Perfumes are made up of three basic components - water, alcohol and fragrance ingredients. The ratio of these substances to each other then determines the strength of the perfume, its durability and, incidentally, its price. Perfumes with the highest concentration of fragrance blend are of course the most expensive!
The presence of alcohol is very important in a perfume, it ensures the absorption of the fragrance into the skin and its release into the surroundings. Incidentally, it is also the contact of alcohol with the skin that makes each perfume smell slightly different on a different person. This is due to the fact that each of us has our own specific musk, a scent that will be very slightly affected by the presence of a different fragrance.
Abbreviations EdC, EdT and others - what do they mean?
The content of fragrance essences in a perfume therefore determines the type of fragrance and influences the final price. On this level, perfumes are divided into five basic groups.
Eau Fraîche - less than 3% fragrance essences
Eau de Cologne (EdC) - 3-5% of fragrances ingredients
Eau de Toilette (EdT) - up to 8% of fragrance essences
Eau de Parfum (EdP) - 8 to 15 % of fragrances ingredients
Parfum (P) - up to 30% of fragrance ingredients
The lowest proportion of fragrance ingredients is found in products labelled "Eau Fraîche". These are very light fragrances, ideal, for example, for the outdoors, for the home... They will give a feeling of freshness, but definitely don't expect a long-lasting fragrance. In the case of these products, the low price also applies.
Around 3-5% of the fragrance essences contain fragrances labeled EdC - "Eau de Cologne", i.e. cologne water. Again, these are rather lighter fragrances that you won't enjoy for long, so it's ideal to repeat their application after a few hours.
Quite a high quality product in terms of fragrance content is the one with the EdT, "Eau de Toilette". Yes, it is a rather well-known "eau de toilette", with up to 8% of fragrance essences. Ideal for everyday wear, it is noticeable but not too intense.
If you are looking for a long-lasting fragrance, choose a product with the description EdP - "Eau de Parfum", where the proportion of fragrance essences is between 8 and 15%. Another name is also "perfumed water" and in its case, you only need to apply it once a day, you will perceive the beautiful fragrance for many hours.
The last type of fragrances are those marked P, for "perfume"! They are suitable for special and glamorous occasions where you will appreciate a unique, intense and captivating fragrance that will make you unmissable!
The content of fragrance ingredients in this case is up to 30%! So you only need to apply a small amount. This product will definitely make you feel special.
It is also the most expensive of the above types.
